Not a Chain

Not a Chain

How we rank

Local businesses, no chains

Businesses are ranked as in the fairly rated method, but only those whose name and website each appear in no more than two places in Australia are listed, so chains and franchises are left out. Each needs at least five Google reviews.

What it does not measure

A business that shares its name with unrelated businesses elsewhere can be left out by mistake, and being part of a chain says nothing about quality.

Rules every list follows

  • A list appears only when at least five businesses meet its method, and it shows at most 50.
  • A business with several Google listings is counted and shown once.
  • A rating counts only when it is between 1 and 5 with at least one review behind it.
  • No business can pay to be listed or to move up, and every business is ranked by the same published method.
  • Figures are refreshed on the first of each month, and every list says which month its figures are from.
  • A business is listed under a place when Google Maps shows it for that place, and never when its own address or landline is in another state.

Where the figures come from

Ratings, review counts and opening hours come from Google Business Profiles. The year a business started comes from its own website.

This month's figures are from October 2026. Lists are rebuilt on the first of each month.
